Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), a Yum! Brands subsidiary, has announced the appointment of Thuthuka Nxumalo as the new Chief Operations Officer (COO) for its US operations. Nxumalo is set to take up his new role on February 5.

A Proven Leader for KFC’s Operations

Tarun Lal, President of KFC US, praised Nxumalo’s extensive experience and operational expertise. “Thuthuka is a seasoned operator with a proven track record of driving operational best practices,” Lal stated. He expressed confidence in Nxumalo’s ability to lead KFC US towards delivering an exceptional guest experience, highlighting his knack for identifying rapid improvement opportunities and motivating teams.

Nxumalo’s Distinguished Career

Before his new role at KFC US, Nxumalo notably held the position of COO at KFC Africa for three years. His career also includes a significant tenure with Anheuser-Busch InBev, where he served as the Brewery Operations Director for South Africa for nearly four years. Additionally, Nxumalo has over 15 years of experience with SABMiller and South African Breweries, encompassing various roles.

Expanding the Leadership Team

In a related announcement, KFC revealed that Christopher Poirier is joining the leadership team as Chief New Concept Officer for KFC US. This appointment is part of the brand’s ongoing efforts to modernize and innovate its concepts in collaboration with the existing leadership.

Poirier’s Journey with Yum! Brands

Poirier’s addition to the KFC team is backed by his extensive experience within Yum! Brands. He has been with the company since 2005 and has spent the last eight years at Pizza Hut. Most recently, he held the position of Global Chief Brand Officer at Pizza Hut, contributing significantly to the brand’s development and success.
